Thiago Braz Da Silver shock the world as he beat pole vault champion Renard Lavillenie to claim Brazil first athletic gold medal at the Rio Olympic.

Da Silver won the Olympic pole vault gold medal in a dramatic fashion on Monday to give the host country its first athletic gold medal of the games.

World record holder Lavillenie of France took the silver medal.

After three early failure,Da silver passed on an attempt at 5.98m and pushed Lavillenie to 6.03,which the Frenchman failed twice before the Brazilian set an Olympic record by clearing that height.the Brazilian crowd had been quite early in the night, which begun with a rain delay, but quickly got behind their 22-years-old countryman, cheering him wildly and booing Lavillenie as he prepare for his final jump.

Lavillenie gave a thumbs-down signal, apparently requesting for silent, but the crowd ignored him, exploding in cheers when Lavillenie missed his final jump.

Outside the quarter full stadium, shouts echoed through the darkened street of Rio's Jardim Botanico neighborhood.

It was Da Silver highest jump by 10cm,earning the host country second gold of South America's first Olympic.

Da Silver took up the sport at the age of 14,making him newcomer unlike Lavillenie.the Frenchman made his first attempt at vaulting at the age of four, using a curtain rod, imitating his father who was an amateur vaulter, who built a setup in his backyard for his son to practise.
